This week The Exam Man (sort of) heads to Sophie's homeland for a thoughtful, wide-ranging chat with the fountain of assessment knowledge that is Sarah Ferguson. Sarah is Director of Assessment at WJEC and Eduqas.John and Sarah confess their mutual obsession with the subject matter in hand, we dig deep into how exams work across both Wales and England, and hear all about the benefits and challenges of their differences- from linear and modular GCSEs to vocational qualifications and Welsh-medium assessment. Not a Welsh cake in sight sadly, but plenty of food for thought about what near neighbours can learn from each other.
Sarah Ferguson is Director of Assessment at WJEC and Eduqas, where she leads the delivery and quality assurance of assessment services. With extensive experience in educational assessment and qualification development, Sarah is passionate about ensuring assessments are fair, valid and reliable, enabling all learners to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and understanding with confidence.
